Do you love wearing false eyelashes but the thought of having to remove them and reapply them every day is a total pain. So when lash extensions started gaining popularity, you were all in!
We all know the feeling, you’ve just got a fresh set of eyelash extensions, and you’re feeling fab. Then, life happens. You have a big emotional night out, or you watch a sad movie, and the tears start flowing. Suddenly, your beautiful lash extensions are a mess. But don’t worry! There are a few things you can do to fix yourself after crying with eyelash extensions.
After crying, wash your lashes with a lash cleanser. If you don’t have one of these please only use a cleanser with no oil! Lash cleanser is a must for any long term eyelash extensions wearer. Ask your eyelash artist to give you one, buy one of them on order online.
What are tears made of exactly?
Tears contain electrolytes (potassium, sodium, chloride), and thousands of proteins in addition to salt and fatty oils.
These will make your eyelash extensions feel crispy and stuck together after crying.
Avoid brushing your eyelash extensions while wet with tears or after your tears have dried in your lash extensions. A lash cleanser will ensure that everything is squeaky clean.
- Pump out the eyelash shampoo provided by your stylist in your hands or on your closed eyelid.
- Put the shampoo foam on your lashes and eyelids. Let it coat your lashes all the way to your lash line.
- stroke your lashes up and down with a soft makeup brush.
- Rinse your eyelashes with water running down your face.
- Dry your eyelashes with a hairdryer on low and cool settings or pat dry and air dry.
- Comb your eyelashes with a spoolie once 80% dry, so that tangled eyelashes are back in order as they originally were.
Make sure to avoid sleeping without cleaning your eyes after crying with eyelash extensions. Dried-up tears = concentrated salt and oil on your eyelash extensions will accumulate oil and other minerals on your lash line and make your eyelash extensions fall prematurely.
With a little bit of care, you can keep your eyelash extensions looking fabulous – even after a good cry!
I was told to never wet my lash extensions
While water isn’t harmful on its own, tears, excess steam and warm water are harmful to eyelash extensions. They can degrade the bond created by the lash adhesive and have premature fallout. If after a crying session your eyelash extensions are falling quicker than normal, book a touch up with your lash artist.
Aftercare is very important if you cry while wearing eyelash extensions. Keep in mind to avoid roughly rubbing your eyes after crying and sleeping with dry tears.
